How to make a low carb muscle building diet?

4 Comments 22 January 2011

Question by Youlanda Kokkinis: How to make a low carb muscle building diet?
My focus is on building muscles, how can I make a useful low carb muscle building diet for myself? thanks in advance.

Best answer:

Answer by Anthony
You can’t. Low carb is great for fat loss. Carbs are needed to build muscle.

Protein and fats are the building blocks to muscle. Carbs are needed to fuel the muscle building process. Think of it this way:

Protein and fats are the bricks to a new house. Carbs are the brick layers. The bricks will just sit on the ground if it weren’t for the brick layers.

edit: what you CAN do is this – a targeted ketogenic diet (TKD).

This is where you ALL your meals, except your post workout meal, will be protein & fats only, thus low carb meals. The meal after your workout would be a protein + carb meal and this will provide the muscle building nutrients.

What is the best type of protein supplement for a woman to take?

3 Comments 21 January 2011

Question by driven2187: What is the best type of protein supplement for a woman to take?
I want to build lean muscle mass in my lower body. I looked into different supplements and talked to some people who have done so, but they were men. I was informed that soy protein would be best for a woman. Is that correct? I want to build muscle quickly and I read whey protein was the most popular, but may not be a good choice for a woman.

Best answer:

Answer by Not in the mood
I have not read that it is different for women. I use whey protein because soy makes me gassy.

No Comments 20 January 2011

Question by Jack M: What is the best muscle building upper body routine?
Hello,

I am looking for a really good, descriptive upper body routine. The main goal of this routine is to build muscle. Obviously i would also like to increase my strength. I am willing to put in as much time as possible, i just cannot find a routine which is good.

Does anybody know where i can find a very detailed and descriptive routine for upper body online?

Jack

Best answer:

Answer by just saying…
according to exercise for men the first 3 exercises i would recommend that covers most of the upper body are they 3 UPs; the push up (the chest, triceps, shoulder, abs), the chin up(back muscle groups, shoulders, upper arm) and the sit up( abs, lower back). these three should we incorporated into a broader routine of exercises which can include the bench press (for more muscle mass), free weights and dumb bells and all the other stuff that guys do in gyms these days (like row cables or something like that)

Answer by Marcus4Life
Yes, it depends on how you do it. When i first started lifting, i wasnt fat, i was very skinny and short. But i do know how you can get that fat off you abs. Sit ups just wont do it, you need to get active. Play basketball, football, tennis-any sport 3 times a week. (Even sex burns calories).
You need to lose weight-Then build muscle. When you do that you can then start building muscle. First, go to the health food store. Then you are gonna buy Hemp Protein and Organic Coconut Juice. Take those each day you lift weights. When you lift weights, do atleast 70% of your max as much times as you can. (if you can’t go hard, go home).
Note: Do a short warmup set before each exercise with approximately 50% of the weight you will use for the main working set. Do about 4 – 6 reps with this lighter weight, just enough to get warmed up.

A good workout
Squats 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Leg Extensions 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Leg Curls 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Dumbbell Pullovers 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Barbell Overhead Shoulder Press 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Seated Rows 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Bench Press 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Barbell Bicep Curls 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Tricep Extensions 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Weighted Pullups 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Weighted Dips 1 X 8 – 10 reps
Standing Calf Raises 1 X 8 – 12 reps
Abs – 1 X 10 – 15 reps

When you do this workout, i expect nothing short of FAILURE. Thats right, when you lift, lift until you cant anymore. This will shock your muscles and tell them they need to grow to adjust to that high stress. The purpose of muscle is to protect the organs and you are telling them to get big for that purpose. They wont grow off of regular basic training. Thats for women. You need to have a buddy to spot you and workout with. And remember, do each set with good form.
-Good Luck

Any secrets (based on experience) to building muscle besides the usual “work hard” and “eat right”?

No Comments 16 January 2011

Question by davis5581: Any secrets (based on experience) to building muscle besides the usual “work hard” and “eat right”?
Anything else I need to know while I start my journey of building up my upper body…mainly my shoulders, pecs, and abs. i’m not overweight, matter of fact…i’m skinny….just want muscle though.

Any advice besides the simple eat right and work hard lecture? Any certain foods and/or exercises help build muscle faster than others? If there’s any age based advice, i’m 21.

P.S. Do you use protein shakes before or after you work out?

Best answer:

Answer by TheMike
Well the two things that you mentioned are a must. After you follow them I suggest you sleep more than 8 hours daily. Try to have break days during workout days.

I use proteins after the workout. Also try the Creatine powder for building muscles.

Question by oeb: Is giving my nuetered 9month OEB pup dog muscle building supplements bad for him,,?

no no… not people suppliments… i found on the web that sum breeders sell dog muscle building suppliments..like vitamins
i never gave them to him but i was asking around and everybody keeps saying that having ur dog nuetered to early causes them to be less musclar…then i also found breeders selling dog protein and i was wondering it would harm my pup

Best answer:

Answer by Fairydogmother
Probably, so don’t do it! Those are meant for people, not dogs. If you’re feeding a good food, without wheat, corn or soy, your dog should be building muscle from the protein in the food and won’t need supplements.
